Healing the Leaders is a specialized initiative within The Legacy Project focused on empowering leaders who have been directly impacted by the criminal legal system and are now dedicating themselves to self-improvement and community upliftment. This initiative is grounded in the philosophy of healing justice, which recognizes the collective trauma inflicted by systemic injustice, particularly in marginalized communities. Healing justice advocates for holistic healing that addresses both individual traumas and the broader societal wounds inflicted by systems like the criminal legal system.
This retreat aims to provide leaders—who often prioritize the healing of their communities over their own—with the necessary tools and spaces for personal growth and recovery. This is vital, as the work of healing and advocacy can be draining and re-traumatizing, especially for those with lived experiences or connections to the criminal legal system.
