The Legacy Project is designed to make mental health tools, wellness, and travel less exclusive and more accessible to all. With a focus on international wellness retreats, we intend to provide underserved communities with the opportunity to learn critical mental health and life skills, while exploring beyond their communities in an intentional way. Our first retreats are focused on formerly incarcerated people.
We believe in the profound impact that traveling outside of our immediate and known circumstances has, we equally understand the importance of resourcing nature and self-care modalities to address our emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. We intend to help guide individuals back into healthy living- integrating daily life tools for continued cultivation of self-worth, internal peace and a desire to continue further enriching themselves and those around them.
participants will be supported in maintaining their physical and mental health, work/life balance and navigating the often times complex structures of continued education, employment, housing and financial security.
These tools will also support participants to feel more confident and grounded as they experience the pressures and demands of life and the expectations that come from family, community, and themselves.
We will intentionally develop community through our cohorts where people can find safety, camaraderie and accountability in sharing their authentic selves. The objective is to support people in their personal transformation to become more conscious, peaceful, resourced individuals and in doing so create safer more harmonious healthy communities that are in right relationship with the earth.
In December of 2021 Halima & Éva-Milan met virtually while attending the same Kundalini workshop with Siri Rishi (who is now a board member)- partnered up during the Opening Circle they shared with one another their dreams. Right away, Éva-Milan shares her dream to bring her meditation guidance into prisons. During the month-long Kundalini workshop each participant is given an “accountabili-buddy”. Halima & Éva-Milan are partnered up once again.
At the same time Halima had moved full time to Mexico, where people began approaching her about hosting retreats for women. As she considered who the retreats would be for (people who had a few thousand extra dollars laying around) she knew she wanted to do things differently.
Reflecting on how inaccessible the wellness industry had become, yet how critical both travel and different healing modalities had been for her own journey... an idea was sparked... (Both Halima and Éva-Milan are systems impacted; having had family members who were incarcerated. Halima also worked for years in San Francisco county jail and Pollsmore prison. Éva-Milan lost her father as a result of the prison industrial complex.)
In early 2022 Halima called Éva-Milan to share the idea and the seed of LP was planted. By June 2022 Halima and Éva-Milan started planning & meeting to create the Legacy Project concept note. From there everything has been steadily moving forward.
In 2023 the Legacy Project co-founders meet Richard Smith who joins to be a part of the core team.
