The Legacy Project is a healing-centered organization dedicated to addressing trauma and the intergenerational impacts of systematic oppression. Through a framework rooted in holistic wellness and culturally-rooted practices, we support individuals and communities in their journey towards healing, resilience and long-term transformation. Our work is grounded in equity, informed by lived experience, and driven by a commitment to restorative change.
To ensure healing practices and international travel are made accessible to those most impacted by systemic violence.
Healing is both personal and collective. We heal ourselves to create healthier more loving and free communities. We curate spaces for deep connection to nature, ourselves, and each other. We support restoration, transformation and healthy living through integrating daily life tools for physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
We know the profound impact that traveling outside of our immediate and known circumstances has in reshaping the way we relate to the earth and to all living beings.
· Radical Healing- We believe healing is a revolutionary act, not a luxury reserved for a few. We create accessible spaces for rest, reflection, and transformation, especially for those historically denied access to care.
· Liberation- Our work is rooted in the belief that no one is free until we all are. We support healing as a pathway to personal and collective liberation, honoring each person’s dignity, resilience, and capacity for growth.
· Community Care- Healing happens in relationship. We center mutual support, collective care, and shared responsibility as the foundation of our retreats and programs.
· Decolonizing retreats and travel- We disrupt extractive models of wellness-tourism by ensuring that reciprocal and respectful relationships are built with local communities and the land. We prioritize ethical partnerships and give back to the communities that host us.
· Ancestral Wisdom & Connection to Land- We ground our healing practices in the wisdom of those who came before us and to the land. We honor and uplift Indigenous cultures, knowledge systems, and ways of being.
· Belonging- We create spaces where everyone, especially those impacted by incarceration, trauma, and marginalization—feels seen, valued, and safe to be their whole selves.
· Joy as Resistance- We believe joy is essential to liberation. We embrace laughter, creativity, celebration, and pleasure as powerful tools for resilience and renewal.
· Accountability & Transformation- We commit to ongoing self-reflection, growth, and alignment with our values. We hold ourselves accountable to the communities we serve and the futures we’re working to build.
In December of 2021 Halima & Éva-Milan met virtually while attending the same Kundalini workshop. Partnered up during the Opening Circle, they shared with one another their dreams. Right away, Éva-Milan shares her dream to bring her meditation classes into prisons. During the month-long Kundalini workshop each participant was given an “accountabili-buddy”. Halima & Éva-Milan were serendipitously partnered up once again.
At the same time Halima had moved full time to Mexico, where people began approaching her about hosting retreats for women. As she considered who the retreats would be for (people who had a few thousand extra dollars laying around) she knew she wanted to do things differently.
Reflecting on how inaccessible the wellness industry had become, yet how critical both travel and different healing modalities had been for her own journey- an idea was sparked...
Both Halima and Éva-Milan are systems impacted; having had family members who were incarcerated. Halima also worked for years in San Francisco county jail and Pollsmore prison. Éva-Milan lost her father as a result of the prison industrial complex.
In early 2022 Halima called Éva-Milan to share the idea and the seed of LP was planted. By June 2022 Halima and Éva-Milan started planning & meeting to create the Legacy Project concept note. From there everything has been steadily moving forward.
In 2023 the Legacy Project put together an amazing Board of Directors and in 2024 put on their first Healing the Leaders Retreat.
